Roof repairs in Sutton Coldfield

We have been repairing roofs in this town for thirty years, which means we have seen what the last three decades of other people's repairs look like. Sutton has been worked over a lot. A large share of the calls we get here are not for a roof that has failed on its own — they are for a roof where somebody previously did something cheap, and the cheap thing has now come to the end of its short life.

The specific Sutton version of that is the 1970s concrete re-roof. Streets of Victorian and Edwardian houses around the town centre had their slate stripped and were re-covered in concrete interlocking tile, because in 1974 concrete was cheap and slate was work. Concrete tile is roughly twice the weight per square metre. When we get called to a mysterious sag, a cracked ceiling or a door that has stopped closing upstairs in one of those houses, we go into the loft before we go on the roof, because the problem is usually a rafter that was sized for slate carrying fifty years of concrete.

Everything else here is ordinary and we do plenty of it: slipped tiles, blown mortar ridges, split lead on a bay, valleys full of moss off the Park-side trees. Because we are minutes away, a Sutton Coldfield leak usually gets someone on a ladder within a day or two. That is not a promise we can make in Lichfield and we do not pretend otherwise.
